Visiting Students Program AY2013-2014
Georgetown University School of Medicine uses the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) for visiting student fourth year elective applications. Electives are offered to 4th year medical students, students enrolled in U.S. LCME-accredited institutions and osteopathic students.
Please do not call to inquire about the status of your application. Contacting the Office of Medical Education will not expedite the processing of your application. All visiting students will be notified by the Office of Medical Education through VSAS (Visiting Student Application Service) as to his/her application status. If you have specific questions that are not in regards to your application status please direct your inquiries to the Office of Medical Education 202.687.1004.
Important Information for Visiting Students
(2013-2014 Academic Year)
Placement within the electives for all visiting students is decided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The elective catalog will be available on VSAS for AY2013-2014 on April 1st. We will begin accepting applications in VSAS on May 1st and processing applications on June 3rd. Please do NOT call or e-mail regarding the status of the application process.
Once the placement of our students is complete, we begin notifying visiting students of application decisions on a block-by-block basis, starting on June 17th.
If you are placed in an elective, you will be notified via email.
If you choose to accept an offer, you are required to submit the following items to secure your place in the elective. For accepted students ONLY:
-Letter from your primary physician stating that you are in good health and free from communicable disease.
-Proof of N95 mask fit test
-Proof of seasonal flu shot in Fall 2013
-$100 processing fee. Payment form listed here.
Documentation should be uploaded to VSAS but the payment form must be submitted via fax (202-687-9214) or mail only.
Georgetown University does NOT offer housing or parking assistance for visiting students. The AAMC suggests rotatingroom.com for housing.

Needlestick Injury Notice: If you are involved in a needlestick injury while rotating at Georgetown University Hospital, you will need to go to the Emergency Room for immediate care.
**If follow-up care is required, you will need to call the Division of Infectious Diseases at Georgetown University Hospital at 202.444.0086 and schedule a follow-up care appointment.
** Please note: You or your home institution is responsible for all costs associated with any needlestick injuries. Georgetown University School of Medicine and Georgetown University Hospital is not responsible for the cost of care for any needlestick injuries.
