Competencies

This elective is designed to facilitate the student’s mastery of the following defined competencies: 

A-5: An understanding and knowledge of oneself, including the scope and limits of one’s knowledge, skills, and values 

B-7: The ability to learn independently with a critical awareness of the scope and limits of one’s knowledge, skills, and values 

C-5: An awareness of the importance of maintaining one’s own well-being and of balancing the demands of professional and personal life 

Objectives

At the completion of this elective students will:

  1. Describe a variety of healing modalities including meditation, guided imagery, autogenic training, journal writing and movement and reflect on the ways these skills can be helpful personally and professionally.
  2. Articulate the importance of self-awareness and self-care for personal health and well-being and the importance of maintaining a balance between the intellectual, emotional, physical social and spiritual aspects of their lives.
  3. Further develop the skill of metacognition.
  4. Appreciate the value of an on going commitment to personal growth as fundamental to the practice of medicine.
