Our purpose is to promote and learn about Integrative Medicine (previously known as CAM--Complementary and Alternative Medicine). Integrative medicine incorporates a more holistic approach to treating the patient--not only considering the patient as a whole, but also weighing other approaches not normally considered in allopathic medicine. Some topics have included: osteopathic manipulation, acupuncture and meditation (also known as mindfulness-based stress reduction).

Join our yahoogroup to receive notices from the DC PNHP chapter and for discussions with other Georgetown PNHP members. Physicians for a National Health Program is a not-for-profit organization of physicians, medical students, and other health care professionals that support a national health insurance (NHI) program. The group believes that a single-payer system (where the government finances health care, but keeps the delivery of health care to mostly private control) is the only solution to solving the United States' many health care problems: 43 million citizens with no health insurance, many more with only limited coverage, skyrocketing health insurance premiums, malpractice costs, long-term care issues, and relatively poor health indicators, when compared to similar industrialized nations. For more information, please visit www.pnhp.org.

Student Interest Group in Neurolgy (SIGN)
President: Jim Scribner jts49@georgetown.edu
In 2005-2006 I founded a chapter of SIGN at Georgetown and then proceeded to organize very few events. I would like to do a lot more this year. I have less time but more connections. So if you are interested in being the Pres or VP or whatever of SIGN, I could really use your help. A little about SIGN, it is the the official student group of the AAN (American Academy of Neurology). Having a SIGN chapter provides a lot of great opportunities: We have a cool faculty sponsor, Dr. Motamedi, who is always willing to help, a budget provided by the AAN, and there are several scholarship and grant opportunities available only to SIGN members. If thats not enough, We should also be able to send 2-3 members to the annual AAN meeting (in San Diego for 2006-2007). So, yeah, this club rocks.
Surgery Interest Group (SIG)
Melanie Sion (melanie.sion@gmail.com) and Adam Lee (adamlee30@gmail.com)
Surgery Interest Group is in its first full year of existence this year. The idea was to provide a resource for students to learn more about careers in surgery and its specialties. The primary focus this year will be getting students contact with MD's through lecture series and Q & A sessions. Additionally, a big effort will be made to prepare the second year class for its surgical rotations in the spring through suturing, scrubbing in, and other workshops.

How do I start a club?
Any medical student enrolled at Georgetown can start a club by submitting and presenting a proposal of the tentative club to the Executive Council for a vote. The vote is intended to look at the possible interest and support in the organization as well as the overall intentions of the group. Upon approval the club/organization must exist for a probationary period of one school year before they can submit a budget and receive funding for activities from Student Council. During this probationary year the group must demonstrate their commitment to the submitted intention through scheduled activities and the premises they were founded on.
How do I post to the Event Calendar?
Click on Event Calendar on the student website left menu. At the top of the page, click on Calendars. In the right hand column, click on Calendar Owner Login (if you can't login, contact mds8@georgetown.edu to request access for your club). Click on GUSOM Student Events Calendar. Click on the little box next to the date to add an event.
How do I reserve a room?
Any GU medical student can reserve a room by emailing medreg@georgetown.edu (the registrar) with a request for the date, time, and room of choice. If unsure about what room to request, the request can be submitted with a description of attendance and a room will be assigned based on those criteria.
How do I get reimbursed?
Students can be reimbursed for student organization/club or class council activities by filling out and submitting a Student Council Funds Reimbursement Form to the Executive Council Treasurer. Fill out the online reimbursement form, and drop the original receipt into Shelly Xing's mailbox. Receipts are due within 30 days of the date printed on the receipt. No exceptions will be granted. Any questions please email the Exec Council Treasurer at sxx@georgetown.edu
When will I be reimbursed?
Reimbursements typically take 6-8 weeks for a reimbursement check to be issued and mailed to the student's local address.
What is my budget?
Total budgets for clubs can be determined by contacting the Executive Council Treasurer. He/She is the person who will take the initial beginning of the year budget requests for each club in August and working with the total Student Council Budget from the Dean's Office determine the budget for each organization/club based on past budgets and proposed activities for the year for each specified club. Please remember that there are Tax Exemption Forms available for club purchases made in the DC area by contacting the Executive Council Treasurer. Budget Request Form, 07-08 Budget
How do I run a campus event?
Any club can run a campus event by requesting a room or if using the corridors to setup a stand please check with an Executive Council Member or Student Website to determine whether another event might be taking place on that date in the same area. Once the room or area is determined and reserved the club/organization should advertise to the classes they wish to involve via the list server listed at the bottom of each class link from the main page of the Student Website. Once the event has taking place submit your Reimbursement Form (or forms) as described above.
How do I reserve a grill for a student event?
Fill out the online Grill Requisition Form at least 48 hours before your event. If you have any questions please contact Milagros Silva (mds8)
