Section: Student Groups

Welcome! The JMSA at Georgetown University School of Medicine is a growing, enthusiastic community of students and faculty who meet regularly to support Jewish life throughout the medical center. We are looking forward to another exciting academic year, and invite anyone who is interested to join us- all are welcome!

Announcements

We will be planning religious and social events for the 2007-08 academic year and we need you! If you would like to get involved with JMSA please sign up for the listserv and contact us to let us know your interests (or just to say hi!). We will continue our "Schmooze" lunch series, and would also like to organize events with other Jewish student groups, a Tikun Olam service project and speaking events.

  • Join the Georgetown JSA for Chanuka Celebrations and Candle Lightings from December 4th-6th. Click here for more details
  • We will be holding our first Schmooze with the Jews lunch at noon on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th, Med-Dent room NE201. Join us for yummy (Kosher) food and conversation. Everyone is welcome- so bring a friend! We will be discussing the year's activities and potential volunteer opportunities.
  • We are working on organizing our Tikun Olam service program this year, and will discuss potential group volunteer projects at our first meeting in the fall. If you would like to find individual volunteer opportunities, click here!
  • Many sincere thanks to David Schoenfeld, M09, for all of his hard work in leading the group this year. Good luck on the Boards and in the wards!

Shabbat Services

Candle Lighting Times

If the occasional shabbat gatherings at the medical school aren't enough for you, throughout the academic year Jewish grads, undergrads, and medical students gather for Shabbat services and dinner every Friday night at the Jewish Student Association House (JSA House) -- 1318 36th St. NW (202) 687-4383 (or sometimes an alternate location, check the JSA website for the calendar of events.) Or contact the Jewish Campus Ministry if you have any questions. Once a month medical students will have a specific night to meet up and walk over to the JSA together--of course, you can still attend any other Friday night on your own, too!

Schmooze with the Jews

Are you Jewish? Do you know anyone who is? Do you just like good (kosher) food? Do you have a pulse? If you answered yes to any of these questions then come on down to the first meeting of the Jewish Medical Student Association (TBA). Friday lunches are an opportunity to schmooze with your classmates and some members of the faculty, fill your stomach and even your mind as we discuss various topics related to Judaism/medicine or whatever sparks our interest.

General info:

Lunchtime get-togethers will happen on random Fridays at noon

Informal discussions about the relevance of Jewish traditions in today's world.

Let all who are interested come and discuss!
You don't have to be Jewish to attend- just ask Jeff (jpm236)!

Kosher and/or vegetarian food will be provided.
