Visiting Students Program AY2012-2013
Georgetown University School of Medicine is ONLY using the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) for visiting student fourth year elective applications. Electives are offered to 4th year medical students, students enrolled in U.S. LCME-accredited institutions and osteopathic students.
Please do not call to inquire about the status of your application. Contacting the Office of Medical Education will not expedite the processing of your application. All visiting students will be notified by the Office of Medical Education through VSAS (Visiting Student Application Service) as to his/her application status. If you have specific questions that are not in regards to your application status please direct your inquiries to the Office of Medical Education 202.687.1004.
Important Information for Visiting Students
(2012-2013 Academic Year)
Placement within the electives for all visiting students is decided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The elective catalog is now available on VSAS for AY2012-2013. We will begin accepting applications in VSAS in May/June. Please do NOT call or e-mail regarding the status of the application process.
May 1st, 2012: The following departments will be accepting applications starting May 1st: Orthopaedics, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, Urology (Urologic Surgery) and Emergency Medicine. Dermatology and Med-Peds are also now accepting applications.
June 1st, 2012 - All departments begin accepting applications in VSAS. Once the placement of our students is complete, we begin notifying visiting students of application decisions on a block-by-block basis, starting on June 15th.
If you are placed in an elective, you will be notified via email.
If you choose to accept an offer, in order to secure your place in an elective, you will be required to submit a letter from your primary physician stating that you are in good health and free from communicable diseases. You will also be required to submit a payment form, proof of N95 mask fit test, and proof of receiving the seasonal flu shot in Fall 2012.
Letters can be faxed to Office of Medical Education- 202.687.7143 or uploaded onto VSAS.
The $100.00 processing fee for each accepted elective (payable by check or credit card) can only be submitted via fax to 202-687-9214 or via regular mail. For accepted students ONLY: Payment Form
Georgetown University does NOT offer housing or parking assistance for visiting students.

Needlestick Injury Notice: If you are involved in a needlestick injury while rotating at Georgetown University Hospital, you will need to go to the Emergency Room for immediate care.
**If follow-up care is required, you will need to call the Division of Infectious Diseases at Georgetown University Hospital at 202.444.0086 and schedule a follow-up care appointment.
** Please note: You or your home institution is responsible for all costs associated with any needlestick injuries. Georgetown University School of Medicine and Georgetown University Hospital is not responsible for the cost of care for any needlestick injuries.
