Description: The fourth year student will spend four weeks working in all aspects of the Dermatology division.  Four days a week, the student will see patients in the busy clinic, where he/she will perform independent histories and then see the patient with the attending dermatologist.  Dermatopathology on patients that have been biopsied will be examined for clinicopathologic correlation.  The student will become familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of common dermatological conditions, including skin cancer, pre-malignant lesions, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and eczema.  On the other day, the student will attend conferences or perform library research on one of the many ongoing projects.  This may involve the preparation of a lecture to be given by the department or research regarding a dermatological study in progress.  Finally, throughout the week, the student will serve on the Dermatology Consult team.  He/she will evaluate the patient, write the consult H&P and then present the patient to the attending.  In this capacity the student will see a wide variety of dermatological conditions as they appear in hospitalized patients, such as drug reactions or infections associated with immunosuppression.  There is a take-home final exam for this elective.  Hours range from 8:30AM to 6pm.
