Description: Students choosing this elective will be exposed to clinical oncology as well as an introduction to clinical therapeutic radiology.  The emphasis will be placed on physical diagnosis and basic concepts of the natural history of the malignant diseases.  They will be responsible for initial evaluation and will actively participate in the decisions concerning management of cancer patients.  Exposure to surgical and medical oncology will take place in combined conferences in the Lombardi Center .  Emphasis will be placed on understanding the various malignant disease processes.  Students will have the opportunity to see previously untreated patients with cancer, patients undergoing radiation therapy, and patients treated previously who are returning for follow-up examination.  This latter will provide the important perspective of the curability of many patients with malignant tumors.  Clerkship assignment will be made by the elective director.
