Incubating Change Project

The Incubating Change Project is a team project focused on research, advocacy, and education on community health disparities. Fellows will work in groups to address a specific health disparity in the United States. Fellows will need to use a design thinking approach (empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test) that helps mitigate their health disparity topic. At the end of the summer, fellows will create a Pitch Deck Presentation to be conducted over Zoom to the Georgetown University Medical Center community and a panel of judges.

Goals:

  • Prepare: Fellows will build connections with physicians, community organizations, and mental health professionals involved in mitigating health disparities
  • Prepare: Fellows will gain exposure to community organizations to understand the needs and issues impacting underserved populations
  • Persist: Fellows will learn how to advocate for underserved communities by interviewing community organizations and leading physicians to understand the needs of others
  • Persist: Fellows will learn how to address bias, microaggressions, and racism in their academic, personal and professional settings.
  • Practice: Fellows will address the issues impacting healthcare and healthcare equity using an anti-racism framework.
  • Practice: Fellows will learn how to advance opportunities for populations who lack equitable access to health care by reflecting on their own personal lived experiences and backgrounds.
