High School Summer Internships

The School of Medicine provides exciting and hands-on experiences for high school students from across the District of Columbia. We work closely with the D.C. Public Schools to prepare students for success in college and beyond.
Through our programs, students gain insight into the field of medicine — and a glimpse into the community at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Students engage in shadowing, office work and explore an array of topics focusing on human anatomy.
Gateway Exploration Program in Medicine for High School Students

The Gateway Exploration Program is a summer internship opportunity for local high school students (rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors), to explore their dream of becoming a physician. Georgetown University School of Medicine in partnership with Mayor Marion S. Barry’s Summer Youth Education Program will sponsor an internship for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are residents in the District of Columbia, attend District of Columbia Public Schools, and citizens of the United States.
The GEP Scholars are matched as interns to various medical departments that correspond with their high school coursework and extracurricular activities. GEP Scholars will also participate in professional development workshops and brown bag presentations focused on health disparities.
Summer Medical Institute & Medical Immersion Programs

The School of Medicine partners with the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies to encourage participation from D.C. Public School students to the 1-Week Medical Institute and 3-Week Medical Immersion Programs at the School of Medicine.
