When is the application due date?

All applications due Monday, February 5, 2018 5:00 p.m. EST. 

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION?

On the application, there is a section for you to input your recommender name and contact information. Once you complete and submit your application, our office will reach out to your recommender. We will ask them to fill out a short questionnaire and attach their letter of recommendation. We will provide the instructions to your recommender on what to write. If you wait to submit your application by the deadline of February 5th, your recommender will have a maximum of 2 weeks to submit the letter. We will accept letters of recommendation at the latest on Monday, February 19, 2018. 

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT? 

There is a section on the application for you to submit your official transcript. If you have PDF, you can upload it from here. If you have a paper copy, you will need to scan it and upload it into the application. You can visit your registrar's office to obtain a copy of your official transcript. If you attended more than one institution, you will need to submit official transcripts from all institutions.

I SUBMITTED MY APPLICATION AND I DID NOT RECEIVE MY CONFIRMATION THAT IT WAS RECEIVED. HOW CAN I CHECK THE STATUS OF MY APPLICATION?

You will receive an email alerting you that your application has been received. If you did not receive a confirmation email by Friday, February 9th, please contact us with the email heading "ARCHES URGENT". 

What does the completed application include?

The completed application includes:

  • 4 Required short answer essays ( +1 optional essay)
  • 1 Letter of Recommendation
  • 1 Evaluation Form (Completed by Recommender)
  • Official Transcript (scanned & uploaded to application) 
  • Resume

What is the GPA Requirement? 

The GPA Requirement for applicants is a cumulative 2.5.

Should I apply if my GPA is below a 2.5?

Yes, we consider multiple factors in determing our finalists, not just GPA. If your GPA is below a 2.5, please explain in the Optional Essay the circumstances that have impacted your GPA.

Who should apply?

The program is open to all rising juniors and rising seniors. We consider all applicants regardless of race, sex, age, disability, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, socioeconomic background, or other protected characteristic. 

How many students will be selected for the program?

Eight students will be selected as ARCHES Fellows.

What are the ARCHES Fellows Program Dates?

June 27, 2018 - August 11, 2018

What is the timeline for admittance?

  • Applications Due - Monday, February 5, 2018 5:00 p.m.
  • Selected Applicants notified of  Zoom Interviews - Week of February 12th 
  • Applicants notified of being selected as ARCHES Fellows - March 23, 2018

Who should write my Letter of Recommendation?

Letters of recommendation should be written by someone who can speak to your academic, professional and life experiences. Letters are required but do NOT need to be written by a former or current professor. A letter can be written by a former or current employer, service learning supervisor, or a mentor.

The person writing your letter and completing your evaluation should be able to speak about you as a student, leader, and team player and comment on your committment and interest in pursing medicine or pre-health professions.

What makes an applicant the “ideal” ARCHES Fellow?

We are looking for students who are interested in the healthcare field. An ARCHES Fellow is a student who is committed to lifelong learning, research, teamwork, serving the underserved, and critical thinking.

Is this a paid internship?

Yes, we provide a stipend of $4,000. ($2,000 paid after the first 3 weeks, and final $2,000 paid at the end of the 6 weeks)

Is housing on campus provided?

Yes, we provide free housing for 6 weeks in same gender identity, suite style, double occupancy rooms. You will move in on June 27th and Move out on August 11th.

Is travel compensation provided?

Up to $250 per student on a case-by-case basis by the Georgetown Office of Diversity & Inclusion

Are meals provided?

Students are responsible for their own meals/food cost (except for program event meals provided by ARCHES).

Are there prerequisite classes required to apply to become an ARCHES fellow?

No, we do not have prerequisites. We accept candidates with from various academic backgrounds.

Do I need to have prior research experience to apply to become an ARCHES fellow?

No, we do not require prior research experience.
