SUSAN CHENG, EDLD, MPP
Senior Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion
Dr. Susan Cheng is the Senior Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She was formerly part of the founding team of Beyond Z, an early stage college to career start-up focused on accelerating diverse talent, where she directed college curriculum and program design for low-income, first-generation college students. Before joining this venture, Susan was an Associate Partner at NewSchools Venture Fund where she focused on human capital investment and management assistance for the firm’s teacher preparation portfolio ventures in the Learning to Teach Fund. While at NewSchools, Susan co-launched design teams focused on collaborating on solutions to address cross-sector challenges impacting teacher preparation. Prior to NewSchools, she joined Chancellor Michelle Rhee’s transition team for the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). While with DCPS, she focused on human capital recruitment and talent development, organizational culture building, and designing and implementing a performance-management system for the central office. Susan also created and ran the Urban Education Leaders Internship Program (UELIP) and launched the Teachers Central to Leadership central office fellowship for DCPS teachers. Prior to DCPS, she volunteered with Partners in Health in Rwanda, worked in the DC Mayor’s office, and managed a portfolio of education diversity and environmental justice programs for the Greenlining Institute in California.
Susan graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in communications and minor in education. She has a Master's in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School and a Doctor in Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. While at the Kennedy School, Susan co-designed the Community Building workshop to promote campus diversity and helped to form the ALANA (African, Latino(a), Asian and Native American) Group Chapter on campus. During her doctoral studies, Susan was a Freshman Proctor for Massachusetts Hall at Harvard College, supporting the academic and social development of 28 first year students.
DAVID TAYLOR, M.ED
Associate Dean for Student Learning
Director, Georgetown Experimental Medical Studies (GEMS) Program
Since 1990, David Taylor has been an Administrative and Academic Professional in the Office of Special Programs at Georgetown University School of Medicine. In his role as the Associate Dean for Student Learning, Dean Taylor is responsible for initiatives that promote the retention and advancement of medical students through the four year curriculum.
Dean Taylor teaches and mentors students enrolled in the Georgetown Experimental Medical Studies (GEMS) program, which targets underrepresented and disadvantaged students. GEMS serves as a rich, viable pool of future medical students in support of Georgetown’s commitment to diversity in the health professions. Essential educational services include supplemental instruction in anatomy, biochemistry and physiology, and other structured activities designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and academic outcomes for these promising students.

He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Howard University in 1986, and completed the pre-clinical curriculum at the Howard University College of Medicine from 1986-1988. He obtained the Master of Education from George Mason University in 2008. Prior to Georgetown University, Dean Taylor served as Manager of Patient Enrollment for National Clinical Research Centers, Inc.

Christopher Kaingo, M.D
Basic Medical Sciences Learning Facilitator, GEMS Program
Dr. Christopher Kaingo is the basic medical sciences learning facilitator (BSLF) in the GEMS Program at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He joined the GEMS Program in 2016. In his role as the BSLF he oversees and conducts daily learning and facilitation sessions with the GEMS students in the basic medical sciences subjects of; Anatomy. Physiology, Biochemistry and Pathophysiology. In his role, he also helps with mentoring GEMS students and availing them with academic enrichment skills that are vital to improving their critical thinking abilities in academics, which is an important aspect in ensuring great success in medical school and also during their professional life as physicians. He is commonly known as the “Drill Sergeant” amongst his peers because of his teaching style that is aimed at challenging and bringing out the very best in his students.
In his role as a medical educator, he has worked on medical education consultation projects and advises companies that are in the business of developing United States Medical Licensing Exams (USMLE) question banks for medical students in both USA medical schools and international medical schools.
Prior to joining GUSOM, Dr. Kaingo was involved in clinical practice as an internist, and he also worked as an administrator in a healthcare management firm. He continues to also work as a medical educator in several institutions of higher learning within the Washington, DC metro area, where he continues to teach students in the basic medical science subjects.
He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2006 from the University of Dar es Salaam, in Tanzania as a foreign exchange student from Uganda, under the highly competitive IUCEA Medical School Scholarship. He is currently ECFMG certified and he completed all his USMLE licensing exams (Step 1 through Step 3).
Director, Office of Diversity & Inclusion
Nickole Sharp is the Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Georgetown University School of Medicine. As a history teacher, Nickole has taught a range of courses including A.P. European History, Modern World History, U.S. History, and A.P. World History. Nickole served as a History teacher and the Director of Multiculturalism and Inclusion at Sage Hill School in California. At Sage, she created and advised a student leadership organization, S.A.M.E. (Sage Advocates for Multicultural Education), a committee consisting of trustees, faculty, and students called C.A.F.E. (Cultural Awareness for Everyone), and G.L.O.W. (Gay, Lesbian, or Whatever), which trained faculty members to serve as allies for LGBTQ students. Recently at Georgetown Day School, Nickole served as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion. Her responsibilities include the development of the required 9th grade course Diversity and Equity: The Intersections of Identity, upper level elective course, Introduction to Women Studies: From Feminism to Womanism, supporting student and parent affinity groups in all divisions, faculty/staff professional development in diversity and equity pedagogy, management and communication of student conferences/leadership development, as well as individual consultations with teachers, students, and parents as requested/needed. She is also a faculty member for the National Association of Independent School (NAIS) annual Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC). SDLC is a multiracial, multicultural gathering of upper school student leaders (grades 9-12) from across the U.S. SDLC focuses on self-reflecting, forming allies, and building community.
Nickole received a B.A. in African American Studies and Women’s Studies from Virginia Tech and an M.A. in History at St. John’s University where her exploration of the intersections of race, class, and gender shaped her work as both a history teacher and diversity practitioner. Her current research interests are the psychological and physiological impact on underrepresented students in professional and higher education as they navigate through the academy.
