Director: Megha Shah Fitzpatrick, MD
Pediatrics is the specialty of medicine which deals with the physical, emotional, and social health of children, beginning at conception and continuing through young adulthood. At the heart of pediatrics is the concept of development, the constant change of the individual over time. Therefore, during your clerkship you learn to evaluate the child at various ages.
The Pediatric Clerkship is six weeks long and utilizes a variety of settings. Students will spend three weeks on inpatient rotation and three weeks on outpatient rotation. Students will be assigned to one of three sites: Georgetown University Hospital, Inova Fairfax Hospital or Inova Loudoun Hospital for their inpatient rotation where they will complete three weeks on the inpatient ward. Students will also complete three weeks of outpatient pediatrics in the surrounding community or at the Georgetown Pediatric Ambulatory Clinic (CYAS) located at Tenleytown.
