Georgetown Summer Medical Institute (GSMI)
Applications will be accepted from the following:
- undergraduate students who have completed at least their sophomore year of college (rising juniors)
- persons who have graduated from college (post-bacc)
- current medical school students
Each course has pre-requistes; please reference the course descriptions to ensure you have the proper pre-requisites for the course you’re applying to.
The completed application form, transcripts, and non-refundable $50 application fee should be received by June 1, 2020.
For remediating medical and dental students, the application deadline is extended to June 15, 2020. Medical/Dental students remediating a class also need the approval of their dean. Applicants should have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, and for Human Physiology they should have completed courses in General and Organic Chemistry. For Human Gross Anatomy applicants should have completed a course in Biology. Full tuition payment is due on or before first day of class.
GSMI Application Submission
Applications and application fees must be submitted online through the online application system.
In addition to the application, all applicants MUST submit an official transcript from the Current/Most Recent Program that you have attended (matching the information that you provided in the application). Please have an electronic transcript sent to from your registrar to Dr Whitney (firstname.lastname@example.org (new window)). If you have attended multiple schools, please do not submit additional transcripts unless specifically requested to by the Admissions Committee.
Letters of Recommendation are NOT required and should not be submitted. However, applicants applying for a remedial class must submit a letter of permission from the dean of their current medical/dental school.
Non-U.S. citizens and non-U.S. legal permanent residents who are admitted to the Georgetown Summer Medical Institutes are eligible to study in the program in F-1 or J-1 student status. Students will receive a link in their GSMI admission letter directing them to the Office of Global Services (OGS) website to apply for a Georgetown-issued Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 immigration document. OGS will issue the Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 within four weeks of receiving a complete application via the online International Student Portal.
Instructions on how to apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa are available on the OGS website. Please contact OGS with any questions pertaining to appropriate immigration statuses for participation in a full-time course of study.
Due to lengthy processing times, individuals requiring immigration support are required to apply to the GSMI program prior to April 12, 2020.
Students enrolled in foreign medical schools should apply for the regular course (not the remedial course) unless specifically instructed to by the GSMI Program.
The language of instruction is English.
