Information Technology
Technology is integrated in all aspects of Georgetown’s School of Medicine. Students listen to lectures digitally and access databases from the National Library of Medicine for patient practice guidelines and drug reference guides. Handhelds help students and physicians pull up clinical information on the spot, at the point of care.
GUMC uses technology on a broader scale. Information technology projects underway include archiving of streaming lectures, podcasts, and videocasts that students can download at any time, student training in “e-prescribing” and the use of electronic health records, and health information systems.
The task across technology projects at GUMC is to use these tools to help support the treatment decisions students and physicians make, and to help answer patients’ questions.
