(April 9, 2025) — Yousef Aljohani, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Ken Kellar, PhD, took first place for the postdoc poster presentation at the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics annual meeting in early April in Portland, Oregon.

His poster, “Mirtazapine Enhances Long-term Potentiation and Memory Performance in Aged Rats,” advances the understanding of age-associated cognitive decline.

Aljohani’s work was supported by funding from the Toulmin Pilot Project awarded in 2024 to Kellar, a professor of pharmacology and physiology in the School of Medicine.

“I’m sincerely grateful for the Toulmin support, which made it possible for us to pursue new and important questions about aging and memory,” Aljohani said. “This generous funding has been instrumental in helping us generate the foundational data needed to pursue NIH support and advance our research.”

Toulmin Pilot Projects are supported through the philanthropy of Harry and Virginia Toulmin. The Toulmins established the Warwick Evans and Mary Mason Washington Evans Medical Research Endowment in honor of Harry Toulmin’s grandparents. Warwick Evans was the first graduate of Georgetown University’s medical school.
