Description: Students choosing this elective will be exposed to clinical oncology as well as an introduction to clinical therapeutic radiology. The emphasis will be placed on physical diagnosis and basic concepts of the natural history of malignant diseases. Students will rotate with attending physicians on Breast, Prostate, Lung, GI and Head and Neck clinical services in the Department of Radiation Medicine and will be responsible for initial evaluation, with  active participation in the decisions for management of cancer patients. Exposure to surgical and medical oncology will take place in the combined modality conferences of the Lombardi Cancer Center. Emphasis will be placed on understanding malignant disease processes and the options for clinical intervention. Students will have the opportunity to see previously untreated patients with cancer, patients undergoing radiation therapy, and patients returning for post-treatment follow-up examinations. This rotation will provide important perspectives of the treatment and curability of patients with malignant tumors. A disease site-specific oral presentation to residents and faculty is required. Clerkship assignments will be made by the elective director
