Cultivating Opportunity & Realizing Excellence (CORE) Leadership Program

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is pleased to announce the inaugural Cultivating Opportunity & Realizing Excellence (CORE) Leadership Program at Georgetown School of Medicine. CORE is a virtual, cohort-modeled leadership program that focuses on providing opportunities for connection and exposure to medicine and health sciences through the Georgetown University Medical Center.
CORE GOALS:
- Provide opportunities for exposure, experience and reflection in medicine and health sciences for undergraduate students interested in pursuing medical studies.
- Nurture students’ commitments to advancing opportunities for populations who lack equitable access to health care and/or are committed to serving the underserved in the United States.

ELIGIBILITY
- The CORE Program is open to all undergraduates pursuing medicine and/or other healthcare professions in a community college or four year university. Applicants must have completed at least one semester prior to applying and graduation date after December 2020.
- No minimum GPA Required; however, students must be in good academic standing.
- All students are encouraged to apply, including first-generation college students (first in their families to attend college/university), students from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine, and students committed to advancing opportunities for communities and populations who lack equitable access to health care.
Other factors for consideration include that a student:
- Identifies with a group that is racially/ethnically underrepresented in the health professions;
- Comes from an economically or educationally disadvantaged background; and/or
- Has demonstrated an interest in issues affecting underserved populations and a commitment to advancing opportunities for communities and populations who lack equitable access to health care.
- Submits 1 compelling personal essay and 1 strong letter of recommendation.
- Local DC Preference: A preference will be given to students whose permanent residence in the District of Columbia (DC) and/or who attended a public high school in Washington, D.C.

- Sessions will take place Tuesdays from 6-8:30PM EST and Fridays from 2-5pm EST
- Orientation on Monday, June 21, 2021, 6-7pm EST
- Capstone presentations on August 3, 2021, 6-9PM
- Final Celebration on Friday, August 6, 2021, 2-4pm EST
