What is Mini-Med School about?
Mini Medical School is an eight-week seminar series in which Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) faculty volunteer their time to present various topics of biomedicine during two-hour sessions. Lectures typically include four basic science and four clinical science topics. There is no homework and there are no tests, but the program is very enriching and offers participants an insight into a medical school course.
Who can register for the program?
All are welcome to participate in the program!
How often do you have the program?
Every year, for eight weeks, in the spring and fall. The program is always held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Do the topics change every semester?
Yes. Although some topics may be repeated every few semesters, we generally try to cover a different aspect of the subject each time it is offered.
I am currently considering attending medical school. Is Mini-Med School good for me?
If you are interested in medicine and medical sciences, Mini-Med School will be an interesting program for you, as it covers many applicable topics in medicine and is taught by our regular medical school faculty.
Are there any age requirements to participate?
The program is open to people of all ages. Participants under the age of 18 are required to submit a minor authorization form, signed by a parent or guardian.
How do I apply and pay for the program?
Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Registration typically opens up a month before the upcoming semester. You may pay with a credit card, check, or cash. All credit card payments are accepted online only. In-person cash or check payments may be made on the evening of each program date (except for Spring 2021 when the program is being held virtually). Individuals who are on our mailing list will receive notification once registration opens up for the semester. You can register here (new window).

Will I receive credits for attending the program?
The continuing education units offered by Georgetown University are generic CEUs. Many regulatory bodies will accept this verification as a means of fulfilling continuing education requirements. Some professional organizations require that CEUs be obtained from specific granting bodies. It is your responsibility to determine that the CEUs from Georgetown will satisfy the requirements of your professional organization. You will receive .2 units for each session you attend, for a maximum of 1.6 units.
