CuraMD: Intellectual Wellness
CuraMD: Well-being Domains & Resources
The process of attaining intellectual wellness requires you to expand your knowledge and engage in forward, independent thinking. This will involve pursuing creative, mentally stimulating activities. Activities should enhance individual skills and allow you to share your knowledge and experience with others. Intellectual wellness is rooted in discovering opportunities for growth, developing problem solving skills, and overcoming barriers and challenges. It can be advanced through academics, cultural and community involvement, and exploring personal interests. The desire to acquire information and improve skills in pursuit of lifelong learning contributes to your intellectual wellness.

Office of Student Learning & Academic Advising
OSLAA at the School of Medicine is available to all medical students at any time, via self-referral. Learning specialists in this office can assist with a wide range of learning & test-taking strategy support – in addition to helping you understand what learning resources most fit with your time and strategies. To request an appointment, students simply need to fill out the Learning Consultation Request form.
Peer-to-Peer Tutoring
The Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Tutoring Program provides an additional level of academic support to medical students, while providing an opportunity for upper-level classmate tutors to reinforce their knowledge and critical thinking skills. All Georgetown medical students receive up to 2 hours/week of tutoring, covered by the school. Additional hours must be approved by the Dean for Students.
Learning & Testing Accommodations
The Office of Student Learning and Academic Advising (OSLAA) is responsible for assisting students with their test-taking and/or learning accommodations, who have received approved documentation from the Academic Resource Center. Learning specialists can also work with students to identify strategies and resources that take into consideration any needs for accommodation.
READ Campaign & DML
The Dahlgren Memorial Library (DML) is the main library serving the Georgetown University Medical Center. Among its many core services, DML hosts the annual READ Poster Campaign, highlighting SOM students, staff, and faculty’s favorite pieces of literature, within and outside of one’s field, that have been formative to their own development.
Diversity Dialogues in Medicine
Diversity Dialogues in Medicine is a dynamic peer education and community building program at the Georgetown School of Medicine, facilitated by trained peers. Peer Dialogue Facilitators (PDFs) seek to educate themselves and others about diversity and intersections of identity and intergroup dynamics in order to build common understandings across groups.
Longitudinal Academic Tracks
The Longitudinal Academic Tracks available at the School of Medicine allow students to explore various areas of interest in conjunction with the four-year medical school curriculum. All tracks are faculty-run, scholarly experiences for medical students interested in developing attitudes and skills for self-directed, lifelong learning and career development.
Cura Conversations
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the Georgetown School of Medicine curates selected readings written by GUSOM students, staff, and faculty each year for the Cura Conversations publication. These personal essays or poems, available online, are reflections around identities that individuals care deeply about and/or navigating challenges related to these identities at school, work, or home.
